Sometimes it can feel like your life is one crisis after another. Sometimes we all feel alone, lonely and we struggle to cope with the challenges that we face. I've been a licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Illinois since 2004, and I specialize in providing strength's based therapy, in a warm, safe, caring manner, to help you to overcome the challenges you face, and to move on with your life, finding your path and living your best life.
I am trained to provide evidence-based treatments to address most issues that adults experience, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I'm trained in a variety of complementary and alternative techniques to help you ease into therapy, and learn to manage difficult emotions. I have extensive training in the use of mindfulness meditation, hypnotherapy, guided meditation, and in teaching people a variety of affect management skills, such as tapping, also known as the Emotional Freedom Technique. Using Complementary and alternative techniques along with evidence-based therapies, I can help you get back to your healthier, more joyful life.
I also have a great deal of experience providing conjoint couples counseling and family counseling. I work from a systems perspective, meaning I look at how your family or couple system is working, and then I help you to learn better communication skills, healthy conflict skills, (yes conflict exists in all relationships), and I help you to change the unhealthy structure or system that is currently in place and to carefully restructure the relationships that mean the most to you.
I received my BA in Applied Psychology and my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I have practiced in a wide variety of settings, from child welfare settings to community mental health, to the ER, and I have also focused on working with Veterans of Combat and first responders. I work with adults of all types, from diverse backgrounds, and with the LGBTQIA community. I've always specialized in working with adult survivors of trauma.
